Story Review & Feedback Program

Thoughtful feedback. Brave revisions. A stronger piece of writing.

Two rounds of personalized editing to help you see what's working, strengthen your writing, and figure out what comes next.

You've put words on the page. Now you want to know what they're doing, where they're taking you, and how to make them stronger.

Maybe you're working on a personal essay that isn't quite coming together. Maybe you've been writing a memoir and need another perspective. Or perhaps you've finished a short story and want to know what a reader sees that you can't see yourself.

Whatever you're writing, an experienced reader can help you discover what's possible.

I'll read your work closely, celebrate what's working, ask questions about what isn't, and offer suggestions to help you make intentional choices about your writing. You'll have the opportunity to revise your piece and receive a second round of feedback, so you can keep building on what you've learned.

Your writing deserves more than a quick read-through. Let's dig in.

What's Included for $249:

For one piece of creative writing up to 5,000 words.

  • A 30-minute, one-on-one Zoom conversation

  • An in-depth developmental edit with extensive comments, questions, and suggestions

  • One month to revise your piece

  • A second round of editing, including line edits and high-level suggestions

  • Personalized next-step recommendations

  • A one-week turnaround for each round of editing

Here's How It Works

1. We Start with a Conversation

Before I dive into your writing, we'll meet for a 30-minute Zoom call.

I want to understand what you're trying to accomplish with your piece, how you feel about it, and what kind of support would be most useful to you.

We'll talk about your intentions, what's working, what's challenging, and what you hope the piece will become. I'll also ask about your experience as a writer. Whether you're just beginning or have been writing for years, your perspective and goals matter.

This conversation helps me approach your writing with an understanding of what you're trying to do, rather than making assumptions about what your piece should be.

2. Round One: The Developmental Edit

This is where we dig in.

I'll read your piece closely and return it with extensive notes, comments, questions, and suggestions. I'll look at the bigger picture: what you're trying to communicate, how the piece is taking shape, and where it might benefit from more attention.

I'll tell you what I love. I'll point out the moments that shine, the sentences that make me stop and reread, and the sections I want more of. I'll also flag places that aren't quite landing, areas that need more detail, sections that could be tightened, and opportunities to strengthen the piece.

You'll receive ideas to explore, questions to consider, and suggestions for revision. My comments are designed to help you see your writing from another perspective and consider possibilities you might not have noticed on your own.

This isn't about me telling you what your writing should be. It's about helping you understand what your piece is doing, what you want it to do, and how you might bring those two things closer together.

I'll return your first round of feedback within one week of our initial conversation and receipt of your piece.

3. Your Turn to Revise

Now you get to work with the feedback.

You don't have to follow every suggestion, answer every question, or make every change I've proposed. You're the writer, and this is your piece. My job is to offer thoughtful feedback and possibilities to consider. Your job is to decide what serves your writing.

Take what resonates. Question what doesn't. Experiment. Try something new. You might discover that one small change transforms the whole piece, or that a suggestion leads you somewhere entirely unexpected.

You'll have one month from receiving your first round of feedback to revise and resubmit your piece for the second round.

4. Round Two: Refinement and Next Steps

Once you've revised your piece, send it back to me for another read.

This round is less intensive than the first. I'll offer line edits where they can help, along with high-level suggestions to strengthen your revised piece. I'll look at how your changes are working, flag anything that may still need attention, and help you identify where to focus next.

I'll return your second round of feedback within one week of receiving your revised piece.

At the end of this process, you'll have another perspective on your writing, a clearer understanding of its strengths and possibilities, and practical suggestions for moving forward.

“Erica is a fabulous writer, writing coach, and editor. Her insight into how to keep readers in the scene with concrete detail, emotion, or somatic connection has helped my work immensely. 5 out of 5 stars for creating a safe space to grow in craft and courage. You will not regret the investment in yourself. Erica will have your back the whole way through. And you'll have made a genuine friend in the process.”

What If I Need More Time to Revise?

Life happens. Sometimes writing takes longer than we expect.

Your second round of editing is included when you resubmit your piece within one month of receiving your first round of feedback.

If you don't resubmit within that window, the included second round expires. At the end of the month, I'll still send you personalized next-step suggestions to help you continue working on your piece.

If you'd like to receive your second round of editing after the deadline, you can arrange this for an additional fee of $0.03 per word.

The goal is to help you keep moving forward while making sure we both have a clear timeline to work with.

What Kind of Writing Can I Submit?

I work with a range of creative writing, including:

  • Personal essays

  • Memoir and autobiographical writing

  • Creative nonfiction

  • Fiction

  • Other forms of creative prose

Your piece can be a work in progress or something you consider nearly finished. You don't need to have everything figured out before we begin.

Submissions must be 5,000 words or fewer. This offering does not include poetry.

Who Is This For?

Writing Feedback is for you if:

  • You've written something you're excited about, but you're not sure how to make it stronger.

  • You're struggling to figure out what's missing or why a piece isn't quite working.

  • You want an experienced reader to help you see your writing from a fresh perspective.

  • You're ready to revise but need some direction.

  • You want honest, thoughtful feedback that recognizes what's working as well as what needs attention.

  • You're looking for support that respects your intentions and your voice as a writer.

You don't need to be an experienced writer. You don't need to have a polished, finished piece. You just need a piece of writing you're ready to explore.

Feedback That Helps You Grow

I'm a Canadian author, writing mentor, and public speaker. My work explores the power of storytelling, the courage it takes to put words on a page, and the connections we make through our stories.

As a writer myself, I know what it feels like to be deeply invested in a piece and unsure what it needs. I also know how valuable it can be to have someone read your work carefully, recognize its potential, and ask the questions that help you see it differently.

My approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and a belief that confidence follows compassion, not perfection.

I'll take your writing seriously. I'll celebrate what works. I'll tell you where I think there's room to grow. And I'll give you ideas to consider without asking you to abandon your own instincts or voice.

Because the goal isn't to make your writing sound like mine. It's to help you make it more fully yours.

Ready to Work on Your Writing?

You've already done the work of putting words on the page. Now let's explore what those words can become.

Your words matter. Let's help them get where you want them to go.

Writing is personal. Your stories, your voice, and your inner world deserve a coach who understands both the craft and the emotional landscape of creating. My approach is rooted in safety, clarity, and compassion—because meaningful writing can only happen when you feel supported, seen, and grounded.

You’ll be guided, not pushed.

I don’t believe in harsh critiques, rigid rules, or productivity-at-all-costs. Instead, I offer thoughtful, strengths-focused guidance that helps you grow without overwhelm.

You get support that meets you where you are.

Whether you’re writing for the first time, returning after a long pause, or deep in a project, I tailor our work to your needs, pace, and goals. Your writing journey is unique—you deserve support that honours that.

You’ll build safety, confidence, and trust in your voice.

As an author, teacher, writing mentor, and speaker, I’ve spent years helping people write from a place of emotional steadiness. Together, we create the conditions where your voice can expand and your creativity can breathe.

Your stories matter—and I treat them that way.

I listen deeply. I notice what’s working. I pay attention to the heart of your writing. And I reflect it back to you with honesty, encouragement, and care.

You won’t be doing it alone.

Writing can feel isolating—but it doesn’t have to. When we work together, you have someone in your corner: cheering you on, helping you navigate stuck places, celebrating your progress, and holding space for your words.
