Writing With Friends
An online writing group for people who want to actually write.
Writing With Friends is a warm, low-pressure online writing community built around regular co-writing sessions, accountability, creativity and connection.
At the heart of the membership are Safety in Numbers, our three weekly online co-writing sessions. You show up, settle in, and write alongside other people who are doing the same thing. You can work on a novel, memoir, poetry, short stories, essays, journaling, or whatever you're writing right now. No critique. No required sharing. No word counts. Just time to write — together.
$39.99 CAD/month. Cancel anytime.
Here’s what you get
“I love the people, the accountability to my writing, and the opportunity to spend time doing something I love.”
Three co-writing sessions every week
Safety in Numbers happens three times a week. Come to one session, come to all three, or drop in when your schedule allows. Each session gives you dedicated writing time, accountability, and the chance to write alongside other people.
A monthly Guided Write
Once a month, we spend a little more time with a prompt or theme designed to get you exploring, experimenting and putting words on the page.
A growing writing resource library
Writing lessons, prompts, exercises and other resources you can use whenever you need some inspiration, encouragement or direction.
A place to connect
Our private community space gives us somewhere to hang out between writing sessions. Talk about books, share what you're working on, tell us what you're up to, or simply pop in and say hello.
Member discounts
Members receive special discounts on selected Open Sky Stories workshops, programs and other offerings.
There's a little bit of magic in our writing sessions.
Every Safety in Numbers session ends the same way: we each add one line from what we've written to the chat.
It might be a sentence from a story, a line of poetry, a few words from a journal entry, or something we don't quite know what to do with yet. Then we read all the lines aloud, one after another, in the order they appeared.
We never know what we're going to create — and somehow, it always feels a little magical.
At the end of every month, I collect all the lines into a document and send them to the group. Members use them as prompts for future writing, turn them into erasure or cento poems, or simply keep them as a record of what we made together.
Individual writing becomes something collective.
Why write with other people?
Because knowing someone else is showing up can make it much easier to show up yourself.
Writing With Friends gives you accountability without pressure. Nobody is tracking your word count or asking whether you've hit your goals. You simply have a regular place to put writing time on the calendar — and people there waiting to write alongside you.
And over time, something else happens: you get to know your writing people. You encourage each other, talk about books, celebrate progress, share ideas and become part of a community that understands why you keep coming back to the page.
“It’s like joining a group of friends whenever I sign in.”
“Erica creates such a warm, friendly, and supportive space.”
You want to write more regularly but struggle to make time for it.
You work better when other people are around.
You want writing accountability without a rigid program.
You're looking for an online writing community, not another course.
You want encouragement and connection without having to share or critique your work.
You have a writing project — or simply want writing to become a regular part of your life.
You don't need a finished manuscript, a writing routine, or even a plan. You just need something you want to write.
You might belong here if…
What this isn’t…
It's not a writing class. You aren't expected to learn a lesson every time you show up.
It's not a critique group. You don't have to share your work or give feedback.
It's not a productivity challenge. Nobody is tracking your word count.
It's simply a place to write with other people and a safe space to explore another creative outlet.
And then there are the people…
“Writing with Friends is a group of intelligent people who bring expertise, knowledge and a whole lot of information while also providing comfort and friendship.”
This might actually be the best part. Writing With Friends is a community of people who love words, stories, ideas and making things. As one member put it:
“I have made so many new friends and got a lot of writing done too!”

Come once a week. Come three times a week. Come when life allows. There's no gold star for attending everything. The important thing is that writing has a place in your life.
You don't have to write alone.
Writing is personal. Your stories, your voice, and your inner world deserve a coach who understands both the craft and the emotional landscape of creating. My approach is rooted in safety, clarity, and compassion—because meaningful writing can only happen when you feel supported, seen, and grounded.
You’ll be guided, not pushed.
I don’t believe in harsh critiques, rigid rules, or productivity-at-all-costs. Instead, I offer thoughtful, strengths-focused guidance that helps you grow without overwhelm.
You get support that meets you where you are.
Whether you’re writing for the first time, returning after a long pause, or deep in a project, I tailor our work to your needs, pace, and goals. Your writing journey is unique—you deserve support that honours that.
You’ll build safety, confidence, and trust in your voice.
As an author, teacher, writing mentor, and speaker, I’ve spent years helping people write from a place of emotional steadiness. Together, we create the conditions where your voice can expand and your creativity can breathe.
Your stories matter—and I treat them that way.
I listen deeply. I notice what’s working. I pay attention to the heart of your writing. And I reflect it back to you with honesty, encouragement, and care.
You won’t be doing it alone.
Writing can feel isolating—but it doesn’t have to. When we work together, you have someone in your corner: cheering you on, helping you navigate stuck places, celebrating your progress, and holding space for your words.
